Physiotherapy during Pregnancy and the Postnatal Period

Physiotherapy can assist with a range of pregnancy/postnatal-related conditions including:

  • Pelvic pain (including pubic symphysis pain or sacroiliac pain)

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Wrist pain
  • Rectus diastasis (stretching of the abdominal muscles)
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction (which may contribute to urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse)
  • Numbness in the thighs
  • Inflammatory breast conditions (engorgement or mastitis)

Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Options
Antenatal & postnatal exercise classes focus on specific stretching and strengthening exercises to help your body adapt to the postural changes of pregnancy and to safely and effectively regain strength and fitness postnatally. Classes are informative and fun and encourage networking with other new mothers and mothers-to-be.

Prenatal classes are suitable to attend from 12 weeks of pregnancy, with clearance from your Obstetrician, Midwife or GP. Women are welcome to return to class from 6 weeks postnatally (depending on mode of delivery).

Pre & Postnatal Pilates Mat Class

These mat classes include a varied range of pilates-based exercises to assist postural endurance during pregnancy and to optimise postnatal recovery. The classes have a strong educational focus and include suggested home exercises. The style and sequence of the exercises will assist you with relaxation and body awareness.

Pre & Postnatal Aquatic Class

Water is a fantastic medium for exercise that is gentle on the joints. The warmth and buoyancy of the water are excellent for relieving back pain and allowing you to exercise with ease, making aqua classes ideal throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period (after your 6-week postnatal check) The class combines gentle cardio, stability and strength exercises.

Mum & Baby Postnatal Pilates Mat Class

These classes will assist you to restore your pre-pregnancy shape and adapt to the physical demands of motherhood, with an emphasis on postural awareness and abdominal muscle control. We welcome you to bring your new baby.

Pilates Studio Programme (Pre & Postnatal)


In these equipment based Pilates classes exercises are performed on traditional Pilates Machines. Each programme is individually prescribed and so individual sessions are required prior to attending classes.
