Hydrotherapy (Aquatic Physiotherapy)

Move's hydrotherapy classes are held at the Repatriation General Hospital, Daw Park which is well known for its modern well appointed pool.

Due to the warmth and relative weightlessness of the pool environment, hydrotherapy classes are particularly suitable for pregnancy, arthritis, post orthopaedic surgery, shoulder rehabilitation, irritable back/hip/knee conditions that don’t tolerate resisted exercise on land and many other conditions.

We currently offer General Hydrotherapy Classes and Pregnancy Classes.

To participate in a General Hydrotherapy Class you are initially assessed at the clinic by a physiotherapist to determine your programme selection. You may then start attending our small group sessions in the pool, supervised by a physiotherapist.

General Hydrotherapy Classes are commonly helpful for:
  • sufferers of arthritis
  • back pain, shoulder
  • knee pain
  • ankle problems
  • as well as other musculoskeletal conditions

General Hydrotherapy Classes also cater for the rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery, and in this case we will liase with your surgeon for optimal care.

Classes run for 30 minutes, with an extra 15 minutes unsupervised time available if desired.

Our Pregnancy Hydrotherapy Classes include a mix of strengthening, stretching and fitness exercise, in the comfort of a weightless environment.
These sessions can be coupled with our Prenatal Pilates Classes which are held at Move Malvern. See our Pre and Postnatal Services page for more details.

The Pregnancy Hydrotherapy Classes are lead by a qualified Physiotherapist (Member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association Women's Health Group), and run for 30 minutes, with an extra 15 minutes unsupervised time if desired.
